General Elections

General elections are the integral part and parcel of democracy. It is held in every five years interval. There is a definite process conducting general elections. At first the date of the election is announced by the election commissioner. Then different political parties of the country start their campaigning. Then after that electoral rolls containing voter's name for different segments are prepared. Along with it, presiding and polling officers are recruited and trained. Then schools or college buildings are required in different areas for polling booths and polling personals are sent there at least a day before of the poll day. After that on the day of poll, different party symbols on the ballot papers are stamped by the voters according to their choices. Next the ballot papers are folded and dropped into ballot boxes. After the poll, election Commission declares the date of counting and the ballots are counted under strict security in the presence of the representatives of the contesting parties. And finally, the results are announced. Thus general election in a democratic country like India is held.

সাধারণ নির্বাচন গণতন্ত্রের অবিচ্ছেদ্য অঙ্গ ও পার্সেল। এটি প্রতি পাঁচ বছরের ব্যবধানে অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। সাধারণ নির্বাচন পরিচালনার একটি সুনির্দিষ্ট প্রক্রিয়া রয়েছে। প্রথমে নির্বাচনের তারিখ নির্বাচন কমিশনার ঘোষণা করেন। তারপরে দেশের বিভিন্ন রাজনৈতিক দল তাদের প্রচার শুরু করে। তার পরে বিভিন্ন বিভাগের ভোটারের নাম সম্বলিত ভোটার তালিকা প্রস্তুত করা হয়। এর পাশাপাশি প্রিজাইডিং ও পোলিং অফিসারদের নিয়োগ ও প্রশিক্ষণ দেওয়া হয়। তারপরে পোলিং বুথগুলির জন্য বিভিন্ন এলাকায় স্কুল বা কলেজের বিল্ডিং প্রয়োজনীয় এবং পোলিং পার্সনগুলি ভোটদানের দিনটির কমপক্ষে একদিন আগে সেখানে পাঠানো হয়। এরপরে ভোটের দিন, ব্যালট পেপারে বিভিন্ন দলীয় প্রতীকগুলি ভোটাররা তাদের পছন্দ অনুযায়ী স্ট্যাম্প করেন। এরপরে ব্যালট পেপারগুলি ভাঁজ করে ব্যালট বাক্সে ফেলে দেওয়া হবে। জরিপের পরে নির্বাচন কমিশন গণনার তারিখ ঘোষণা করে এবং প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বী পক্ষের প্রতিনিধিদের উপস্থিতিতে ব্যালটগুলি কঠোর সুরক্ষার অধীনে গণনা করা হয়। এবং অবশেষে ফলাফল ঘোষণা করা হয়। এভাবে ভারতের মতো গণতান্ত্রিক দেশে সাধারণ নির্বাচন অনুষ্ঠিত হয়।
